Who is behind "Tulips in August"?

Welcome to Tulips in August Photography! My name is Katie Hilt, and I can't wait to help you capture your family as they are now so you can remember them this way for years to come!

I love photographing people and capturing the connections between them. Whether that be a soon to be graduate, family, newborns, etc. I try to work with as much natural light as possible and usually work with families in their home, or favorite outdoor location. My end goal is to capture a moment and create that lasting memory for families to cherish for a lifetime.

Get to Know Your Photographer!

Here are a few random things to help you get a sense of who I am:

  • Dog Lover - We have 1 dog, Kona, (ask me about her whole name!) who goes almost everywhere with us. I love when clients include their furry friends in their sessions!

  • Coffee Fiend - You can catch me drinking a vanilla latte or white mocha all morning, until I find it is no longer appropriate to be drinking coffee, and then if it's not too early I may switch to red wine.

  • Avid Duck fan married to an avid Husky. Game days can get a little tense around here...

  • Dance parties in our jammies in the living room might be my all time favorite thing.

  • Huge Avett Brother's fans. We have seen them live many times at Red Rocks in Colorado, a few times in Portland, once at The Gorge, and now, Bend.

  • Trailer camping newbie - We bought our first trailer this past summer and have been enjoying almost every weekend exploring new areas. We can't wait to take it for a few longer trips! Please send me allll the tips and tricks!

What's in the name?

The name Tulips in August came to me when I was planning my wedding, and I so desperately wanted to have Tulips in all of the floral arrangements. (Much to my despair, tulips are not in season in August - crushing all of my dreams.) We did however, manage to have tulips in the end, as tulip bulbs were our wedding favor to all of our guests. And thus the name, "Tulips in August."
